Woodland Birthday Party

For P's 2nd birthday, we went with the popular woodland theme. It was lots of fun to plan, and I think I finally got all the "owl" out of me.

Tablescape
The centerpiece was simply made with moss-covered styrofoam and pinecones scattered about. I bought mini clay toadstools from this Etsy store and made little finger puppets using the pattern from this store. The little felt critters doubled as party favors. You've seen the owls before around Christmas time. The branches could have just been pulled from a tree if we had one, but we don't. So I bought over-priced dried branches at Hobby Lobby.

Party Decor
The felt finger critters took the bulk of my time in prepping for the party, so I went simple with the rest of the decor. I made the Happy Birthday banner after seeing this one on Etsy. In front of that, I filled a glass pitcher with pine cones and the rest of those overpriced branches from Hobby Lobby.

This was the "enchanted tree." It's filled with paper decor things I bought on clearance at a local party store and patchwork felt owls that I made after seeing this blog.

The front entryway simply had more of those paper things from the party store hanging at different lengths, and the front door had a homemade sign inspired by this Etsy listing.

I made appliqued felt crowns for the kiddos to wear during the party loosely using this tutorial.

Finally, the living room just had crepe paper streamers and an owl mobile that you can make by going to this blog.

Food
Toadstools. Modified by this recipe, I used cut mozzarella cheesesticks and halved cherry tomatoes to make these cuties. They're "glued" together with pesto and topped with kosher salt, olive oil, and balsamic vinegar.

Squirrel Snacks - originally names Squirrel Nuts but quickly amended - I used this trail mix from Austinuts.

Totally not homemade

Strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, & raspberries topped with lots of sugar

I used the Pampered Chef All-Purpose Dill Mix mixed with sour cream & mayo and served with pretzel sticks posing as twigs.

Every good forest has 'shrooms laying around. These are simply stuffed with browned breakfast sausage and cream cheese. I used this recipe.

Assorted cupcakes from A&J Bakery in Dallas purchased using an awesome Groupon. These were FANTASTIC!
