Flowers for Memaw

My sweet Memaw took a fall while walking her dogs and ended up having surgery on the broken arm she suffered during the fall. So sad. :(

The good news (bad transition...I realize this) this situation called for flowers, which gave me the opportunity to finally try out tissue paper flowers. The tutorial I used from Kaboose yields fluffy carnations. I was giddy with the way these turned out.

I visited Memaw again a week after dropping the flowers off, and they were still proudly sitting, fresh as the day I brought them to her in the living room.

T-Shirt Knock Off, Knock Off

I saw this excellent and easy-to-follow J-Crew tee knock-off tutorial on Busily Spinning Momma. This sewing tutorial takes minimal skill and one long-sleeved tee. I had this one left over from my post-maternity shabby wardrobe.

Now it looks like this. I'll probably only get to wear it this summer because the material is sooo thin and worn. But the upcycle took only about half an hour so so. Easy-peasy.

"Mosaic" Art

I've seen a couple of these paint chip mosaics on various blogs, and I've LOVED all of them. I even loved the original from Ballard Designs. But, at $170 on sale, that's not in the budget.

The first tutorial I came across and pinned was from Hope Studios. I loved the blues she used in hers and how simple the tute was. I followed her version and came up with this:

I chose bolder, less neutral paint chips for my version.

Sister's Bridal Shower

Several beautiful women and I hosted my sister's bridal shower this past Saturday. It went smoothly, and I was happy with how it turned out and was planned.  The theme was really more of a color scheme - blues and oranges - with handmade floral motifs.

Making Baby Food: My Essentials+Your Ideas

One of my sister's friends from high school (and a gal whom I'd admire as well) has a new baby girl. This girlfriend plans on making her own food for said baby girl. I told her that I would send an email letting her know what I did. The email started to look like a blog post, so here we are.

Junked Chairs

I found these babies on the side of the road. Seriously. A family was moving and throwing them out. Can you imagine?!

I had already started sanding down the back one before I thought to take before pics.

Spring Wreath Update: Better?

So I realize that Easter is over and Spring will probably last just a few more weeks here in Texas, but I wanted to post an update on that Spring Wreath that I needed help with a few weeks back. I took your advice and added more flowers and mini-pennants.

Better?
I added more flowers on the both the sides, the bunting through the center, and hastily added writing to the cross. I believe all three were suggested.

Love the butterfly ribbon. Perfect for this project.

The pennants were simply made on my computer. I'll figure out a more permanent solution next year. Perhaps embroidered flags, or maybe I'll have acquired a Silhouette machine by then. :P Acquired meaning been given or won. I'll probably add more flowers next year, too. I just get tired of making so many.

I have two...scratch that....three projects that I'll share this week. Junky chairs, sister's bridal shower, & some art.
